MBL Tracking FAQs

Everything you need to know about tracking Master Bills of Lading

What is a Master Bill of Lading (MBL)?

A Master Bill of Lading is the main contract of carriage issued by an ocean carrier / NVOCC. It lists the shipper, consignee, vessel, voyage and every container in the shipment, and customs requires it before cargo can be released.

How do I track a Master Bill of Lading online with TrackCargo?

Enter the MBL number—typically a four-letter carrier prefix (e.g.  MAEU , MSCU , CMDU ) followed by 8–12 digits—into the search bar and press Track . The dashboard instantly shows the latest carrier events, current status and the carrier-provided arrival date.

How often is your MBL-tracking data refreshed?

Carrier data refresh every day , so new milestones such as Loaded on Vessel , Discharged or Gate-Out appear as soon as posted by the carrier.

Which carriers can I track?

TrackCargo supports over 25+ VOCC and NVOCC prefixes, including Maersk , MSC , CMA CGM , Hapag-Lloyd , OOCL and many regional lines. We add new carriers each month.

How many MBLs can I track on the free plan?

The free trial lets you track up to 20 master bills of lading per month . You can upgrade at any time if you need higher volume or API access.

Do you provide predictive ETAs?

Yes. Our ML models analyze historical vessel performance, port congestion, and weather patterns to predict arrival times with 85% accuracy within a 24-hour window. These predictions update dynamically as your shipment progresses.

Can I set up automated alerts?

Absolutely. Configure email, or webhook alerts for specific milestones like vessel departure, arrival, discharge, or customs release. Set up exception alerts for delays, rollovers, or route deviations.

Is there an API for MBL tracking?
